Gardening for Butterflies and Hummingbirds
Saturday, July 18, 2015 @ 10 am - FREE
Instructor: Donna Cressman, Lee County Master Gardener
Butterflies and hummingbirds capture our attention and add inspiring beauty to our yards and gardens. Gardens designed to attract hummingbirds and butterflies should include an assortment of nectar rich plants especially those with brightly colored red, orange, and pink flowers. In addition to the nectar plants which provide nutrition for the butterflies, in order for the butterflies to stick around and raise their families, a successful butterfly garden will include the host plants for the caterpillars to consume. Donna will teach you which plants will lure these beautiful creatures to your garden.
Your landscape and gardening choices influence the wildlife attracted to your yard. By creating a butterfly and hummingbird friendly habitat in your yard, you will have hours of enjoyment observing these colorful creatures and you will help ensure their survival.

Instructor: Donna Cressman, Lee County Master Gardener
Have you been searching for that magical plant that can look good and thrive not only the summer's extreme heat and rain; but also sustain the winter dry season with occasional patches of frost? A plant that requires minimal fertilizer and pesticides? Donna will discuss sustainable, native plants that are adapted to our local climate. These fabulous plants require minimal resource inputs; such as fertilizer, pesticides and water. Not only do native plants require less care and energy, but they help increase the biodiversity of our communities and provide shelter, fruit, and nectar which are essential for the survival of our native wildlife.
